Effective date: 2 August 2026
Summary
- Your tracking data stays on your device. Moods, anxiety scores, journal entries and logs are stored only on your phone and are never sent to us. (One exception: if you use Match me with someone in chat, your focus area is written to the server temporarily while you wait.)
- No ads, no analytics, no third-party tracking.
- One exception: optional Chat. If you choose to use it, your chosen username and messages are stored on Firebase (Google). No email or phone required.
- Creating an account requires no name, email or phone number.
Self Control is a mental-health self-help app for OCD, panic, social anxiety and general anxiety. This policy explains, in plain language, what data the app processes and where it is stored.
Data kept on your device
The following is created and stored only on your device (local settings + SwiftData). None of it is sent to a server; the developer cannot see it.
| Data | Why | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Your moods and anxiety scores | Daily tracking and progress charts | On device |
| Your journal entries and trigger tags | Your own records | On device |
| Exercise / resistance / worry logs | Domain modules and statistics | On device |
| Your name, chosen areas, preferences, badges | To personalize the app | On device |
| Reminder time | Local daily reminder notification | On device / iOS |
You can delete all of this anytime via Profile → Reset data. Deleting the app also removes all local data.
Chat (optional) and Firebase
The anonymous chat feature only runs if you start it yourself. If you use it, the app uses Google's Firebase:
- Anonymous Authentication: you are given a random, anonymous ID. No name, email or phone is collected.
- Firestore database stores: your chosen username, your friend code, the messages you send, and — if you report a user — the report record.
- Purpose: to deliver your messages only to the person you are chatting with. Your messages are not shown to users other than the one you choose.
- Location: data is kept in the European region (Firebase
eur3). - Safety and moderation: you can block and report inappropriate behavior.
- Notifications: so you can be alerted about new messages, your device's notification token is stored on your profile. If you deny notification permission, it is never written.
- Matching (optional): if you tap Match me with someone, your focus area (e.g. panic attacks) is written to a waiting queue so we can find someone similar. That record holds only this and a timestamp — not your nickname — it is deleted as soon as a match is made, and nobody can view the queue. Cancelling deletes it immediately.
What we do not collect
- No advertising ID, location, contacts, or photo-library scanning.
- No analytics or crash-reporting SDKs.
- We do not sell your data or share it for marketing.
Deleting your data
- Device data: Profile → Reset data, or delete the app.
- Chat data: Profile → Delete my chat data permanently removes your username, friend code and all conversations from the server. You can also request this at berkanaslandev@gmail.com.
Children
The app is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13.
Your rights (KVKK / GDPR)
